Investment grade silver bullion coins have a silver purity ranging from 0.999 to 0.9999, so they are essentially pure silver. Silver bullion coins are fabricated in a number of weight denominations with the most common weight being the 1 troy oz silver coin. The Chinese Silver panda coin is an exception as since 2013 it has been produced as a 30 gram coin (approximately 0.965 troy ounces). The Royal Mint’s Queens Beasts series of silver coins is produced in 2 oz and 10 oz weight denominations.
In general, premiums on large silver coins will lower than those on smaller silver coins, however, premiums on the popular 1 oz silver coins are generally low due to the high liquidity of the 1 oz coin size and the widespread demand for these coins.
Silver coins produced by the national mints such as the US Mint, Royal Canadian Mint and Royal Mint are legal tender in their country of issue. Silver bullion coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Silver Maples have been produced since 1988 and are the most recognised silver bullion coin after Silver Eagles. The design features the maple leaf on the reverse with the queen on the obverse. The coins are produced based on demand and the mintage has increased significantly during the last years.
Silver bullion coin produced by the Austrian Mint. The Silver Philharmonic is the first bullion coin denominated in Euros and Europe's only pure bullion coin being minted based on investment demand. Silver Philharmonics have been minted since 2008 and depict the Wiener Philharmoniker or Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Silver bullion coin produced by The Perth Mint. The coin’s reverse features the classic red Kangaroo, surrounded by a radiating design. The coin’s obverse features Queen Elizabeth. Each coin is struck in 1 troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver. The coin is legal tender at AUD$1. The 1 troy ounce South African Silver Krugerrand bullion coin is produced by the Rand Refinery (RR). Rand Refinery is world famous for their mintage of the South African Gold Krugerrand, which has been minted since 1967 and at one point accounted for 90% of the global coin market.
The South African Silver Krugerrand bears the same image from its gold counterpart. The reverse of the coin features a Springbok antelope, the national animal of South Africa, along with the year of minting, face value and Silver weight. The obverse of the coin features Paul Kruger, South Africa’s first president, along with “South Africa” in Afrikaans and English.
Each 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand bullion coin has a diameter of 38.7 mm and is produced from 99.9% pure silver.
Fractional silver bullion rounds minted by the Golden State Mint. The obverse of the coin features the walking liberty whereas the reverse of the coin features an eagle perched on a mountain. Each bullion round contains .999 fine silver.
